Claire

This is my OC, Claire Victoria (clear victory). I use her in my writing exercises (which I admit are primarily Dragon Age based...). Despite the many different story ideas I’ve written with her, there are certain things that usually happen to her. Most specifically are the scars. 

She usually gets burnt by a mage, many times so bad it covers the entire left side of her face and scalp, parts of the right side of her face, and parts of her body. I used my style to emulate the scarring here. It’s an obstacle that sticks with her, sometimes as a symbol of being a survivor when everyone else died, or something to overcome in terms of how others treat her as well as how she sees herself with the scars. She typically ends up with a mask that covers the scarring. 

Which brings me to the other part that’s a common theme. She’s a fighter, specifically trained in danzan ryu jujitsu, and can wield dual daggers as a rogue class. Sometimes, in the Dragon Age stories, I make her a somniari (dreamer mage) because they don’t touch on that near as much as they should and I love the ideas that can come from being able to have those powers. It’s especially interesting to give someone who is depressed, anxious, and pacifistic those kinds of powers, where she’s afraid to use them. 

I use writing as a way to deal my own emotions, to explore and work through my own problems, or to just try to figure general things out. My writing always starts with a “what if this...” Which is probably how I ended up with over 600,000 words in a year. Nothing publishable, probably will never see the light of day... but it’s been good for me. I like using Claire because she’s not me, but is like me (mainly because I have a hard time stepping outside of what I know, but that’s what Elodie is for).
